The book that profoundly changed me

I’ve been a librarian for 15 years. I hear all about books that transform people’s lives, and have experienced it myself.

Seven years back, I struggled to finish tasks without outside accountability. I often joined online challenges but would only last two or three days before feeling disappointed in myself for not following through on my commitment. However, everything changed when I came across a Facebook ad for the Dreambook and Planner from the Dragontree Apothecary. There was an instant connection that drew me in.

I bought it to hoping to start a consistent journaling habit, even if it was in a one-inch square. It became so much more. That Dreambook and Planner truly transformed my life. It led me to discover one of my favorite teachers, Briana Borten, and introduced me to the whole world of offerings from the Dragontree, including my coaching and Illuminator certification.

The Dreambook helped me honor my commitments to myself. Writing things down made me more likely to follow through. I enrolled in their nine-week Dreaming and Planning course to help me strengthen my planning skills. It taught me about daily, seasonal, and annual rituals, and thanks to Briana and others, it revealed a whole new spiritual aspect that I had been craving, especially since my daughter was born.

I'm now a seasoned planner and am using the Dreambook for an eighth year. It’s played crucial role in my becoming a coach. The first part of the Dreambook is all about your ideal life three years in the future and dreaming big! In my daily writing and going through that first part, new aspects of myself bubbled to the surface.

Planning has been essential in developing my self-trust and confidence. Now, when I take on a challenge, I see it through, along with various other tasks. It's also empowered me say no to commitments I would have said yes to in the past, and honoring my commitment to myself.

Creating a morning sacred routine with meditation, yoga, and pulling cards has carried me through some of the hardest times in my life. There is something so special about lighting a candle in the dark mornings of winter.

Additional tools that help me maintain balance include:

  • Planning

  • Daily journaling

  • Morning dream journaling first thing in the morning

  • Morning rituals such as lighting a candle, meditation, yoga, and drawing a card

  • Learning to say no when the agreement doesn't feel right, prioritizing self-care over people-pleasing

What are some things that give you balance in your life? Is there one that you can schedule each week for a bit more sweetness? Write it on your calendar, put it in your phone reminders, and make a commitment to yourself to prioritize it.
